Inspiron 15R 5537. Noise when earphone is connected.

When ever a browser window (both Chrome and IE) or music player opened , noise starts in earphone. Noise is very much annoying.

It stops a few seconds after the browser/music player is closed.

I bought my lap top in December.

What's the solution for this. ?

I updated Realtek driver to 6.0.1.6927 as per your email.

Senthil,

It doesn't seem to be Realtek issue.

I uninstalled Realtek and used windows default driver. Even at that time also the same noise issue was there.

Pls let me know.

Thanks,

Vimal K

Hi vimalece,

Please update the BIOS using the link below.

http://dell.to/1gCx1Kf

Connect the Ac Adapter before updating the BIOS and do not use the system until it restarts after the update.

Increase the volume to max disconnect the ear phone and check if the same issue occurs in internal speakers. Also connect a different ear phone to the system and check if the same issue occurs.

I am also experiencing the same issue, with windows 7 (64bit). Whenever the audio is activated, an intolerable hissing noise is coming out of the headphones.
I have bought my inspiron 5537 a few days ago, for the purpose of it to be used solely with earphones.

The steps that I have followed so far included:
a) updated to the latest bios
b) tried the available drivers from dell.com and also those included in windows 7.
c) tried 4 pairs of headsets having minimal differences.

1. I tried different types of earphones already. Noise was there with all of them. The same earphone I tried

2. I increased volume to max. But truly speaking, I was not able recognize if the noise is coming out or not as the fan/hard disc sound was there.

3. The link you provided is for the BIOS of " Dell Inspiron 5737 System BIOS ". Mine is 5537.

4. My current BIOS version is showing as

DELL - 1
A06
INSYDE Corp. - 10000001

Hi TROjY and vimalece,

This model system comes with a combo audio port, which support both playback and recording as well (Headphone / Microphone). To get the best output we recommend you to use a 3 pin 3.5 mm Connector and it should take care of the static noise as well.

In addition Enable the auto popup in Dell Audio, follow the steps below.

Click on start > in search box type in control panel > Dell Audio and check the option under Advance > Jack Information – “Enable auto popup dialog when device has been plugged in”

Senthil, thank you for your quick response. With the valuable help of the Greek Dell support, I formatted my nbook and reinstalled windows 7 ultimate with the following drivers and respected order.

A good point to note is that the hissing sound was louder just after the audio drivers were installed. I disabled all the audio enhancements and tried various headsets. In my case, only the headsets/headphones had the continous hissing sound (when audio was enabled) and not the line out to speakers.
I also tried different headsets trying to get the best Signal to Noise Ratio. Meaning increased sound volume and minimal noise. The following conclusions were made:
1. Headset  "Hama HK-3023 stereo with passive noise protection"[ 32Ω, 90db, 1,2M, 136mV, 20-20000Hz. Loud sound with unbearable hissing sound.
2. "Handsfree  headsets of Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4". Medium sound volume with distinctive hissing sound.
3.  "Nokia MusicXpress Handsfree headphone".  Low sound volume, low hissing sound

4. Sweex headphones. Low sound volume, bearable- almost acceptable hissing sound

By all means, do try different headsets. The cheaper the headphones, the lower the hissing disturbance :emotion-15:

It doesn't seem to be Realtek issue.

I uninstalled Realtek and used windows default driver. Even at that time also the same noise issue was there.

Then it could possibly be a hardware issue. We saw this before with the Inspiron 1420 and 1520 models, where because of faulty shielding the touchpad caused headphone hissing. It's tough to know for sure because even if the motherboard is replaced the problem might have been designed in. It might take some time for this to be sorted out. In the meantime a workaround would be to get an inexpensive usb audio adapter that will provide an alternative headphone jack.

Much more recently, we have seen a similar thing with the Inspiron 17R SE (7720) and the Inspiron 17R (5720) models, except that the hissing noise in them comes out of both the headphone jack and the speakers. It turned out that the solution was to replace the MB's.

Hi TROJY,

I couldn't tell from your post.. did doing all that fix the issue? I am having identical troubles - hissing only in headphones from Inspiron 15R 5537. I tried reinstalling the audio drivers which did not help. It looks like the hissing only starts once the audio is activated i.e. I play some music. It is extremely frustrating because I literally got this laptop yesterday.

If it did fix your issues I may try following your steps - although it is a huge hassle... Dell should ship laptops that are useable, right?

Thanks

Colsmi,

I did everything with software, it didn't fix the issue. Then Dell tech came home and replaced the motherboard, still the issue was not fixed. I am still working with them for resolution.

I suggest you not to do any further troubleshooting and research but just contact customer support immediately regarding this issue.

Dell has a policy that they will accept the system back within one month you purchase it ( you mentioned you got it yesterday!).

Contact them soon!. They will help you.

Regards,

Vimal K

I'm planning on calling them tomorrow morning! Sounds like I'll probably have to send it back.

Thanks!

Hi guys. By my count there are now 6 owners who have reported this problem on this forum.

An owner in this thread said he stopped the noise by using the native Windows audio driver and by stopping the Realtek Audio Manager with msconfig-> startup .

Vimalece, you said you used the Windows default driver but it did not help, and TROjY said he used the available drivers in Win 7 but that did not help.

Mine is windows 8.

I uninstalled Realtek driver and the hissing sound was still there. I don't know if I had to do something in msconfig.
