Inspiron 15R SE, Can't adjust screen brightness after reopening lid

This is a Inspiron 15R SE 7520, about 2 weeks old, the model is the one with an i7, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD (personally installed 240GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD and Win7 Ultimate 64bit afterwards, but I doubt this is the problem), Bluray drive, and maybe some other thing I forgot to mention.

I have previously changed the Windows power option settings so that closing the lid does not sleep this laptop.

After using it for a while, I notices that sometimes, I could not adjust the screen brightness. The only way to get it working again is a hardware reset.

Narrowing down the steps to recreate this problem, the simplest way to stop the screen brightness adjustment from working is to simply close the lid and reopening the lid. This will happen no matter which power setting you are in, whether or not you are on wall power or battery power, and whether or not you have Dell QuickSet installed.

I am certain that this is not a hardware issue. I discovered that it can only happen after logging on to Windows, if I try to do the same thing while on the login screen, it does not appear to happen.

Also it only happens if the lid is down for about one second or more, if I do it very quickly, I can still adjust the brightness after.

I have replaced the LCD in my previous laptop before, reseating a cable should be no problem for me.

Hi frank26080115,

Welcome to the Dell Community Forum

Thank you for your reply to the post, There is an option available to reseat  LCD cable but that is complicated and we will not recommend suggesting it and requesting you to please accept my friend request and provide me with your Computer Service tag as a private message so that i can check the hardware warranty status and do the needful.

Please reply to the post if you have any further queries.

I have already disabled sleep, like I said in my first post. I have tried changing the settings again, it did not fix the problem, I have also tried changing them and restarting, it did not help

Also another strange behaviour I discovered is that if I am not able to change the screen brightness, then the brightness bar cannot be dragged, as show here http://youtu.be/iKMoN7MsC1I

I think a hardware problems is extremely unlikely because the problem never happens if I am not logged into Windows. It must be a piece of software that is loaded after login that has the bug.

You should get an engineer or developer to talk to me instead of giving me cookie cutter troubleshooting steps. I hope you are at least trying to replicate this problem in-house

Apparently Dell called my house, but I don't really live at that address. Please use something online to contact me or privately ask me for my cell phone number.

I also have this same problem.  It also happened on my old Inspiron 1525.  It would seem to have something to do with changing the closing the lid setting to 'Do Nothing'.
