Inspiron 15r N5110 Memory Upgrade question: Shared Single to Dual
Hi Everyone,
If I've purchased an Inspiron 15r (N5110) with 4 GB Shared Single Channel DDR3 memory, is it possible for me to upgrade it to Dual Channel DDR3 one day? I'm still waiting for delivery, but the configuration that had most of what I wanted (on the Dell.ca) website did not offer dual channel.
Also, I'm assuming that it shipped with a WLED screen as standard. The website gave conflicting information on whether it was WLED or LED on different pages. Although, I'm not terribly fussed on that point.
Thanks in advance

Yes, it is possible - just install a second, matching (size and speed) soDIMM.
The LED backlight will be W unless specified otherwise - an RGB LED is usually a higher-cost add on (and may not even be offered on a budget system like this one).

Thanks for the clarification. If I install a second 4 GB (2 x 4 GB), the system will be able to take full advantage of 8 GB then. Not certain why but Dell Canada only offers up to 2 x 3 GB on the website.

Probably at least in part because of nature of the system - it's a budget model, not a high performance one. Most who buy these are looking for the lowest possible price.
