Inspiron 3847 stalled during BIOS updat--MAYDAY!!
I used the recommended file from Dell's driver recommendation, checked to make sure the upgrade from AO2 to AO8 was in the correct SSID family, and it proceeded for about ~20 minutes, through:
-Reading flash
-FFS checksums ok
-Loading capsule to memory buffer...done
-6 steps of Erasing, Updating, and Verifying Boot and Main blocks, but
-Stalled at "Checking firmware parameters... with WARNING: Do not exit the process or power off before the firmware process ends.. Sending the update image to FW for verification: [ 0%]"
Red letter heading states Updating ME. Please DO NOT POWER OFF!
It's been running for several hours with no further progress, shows CPU usage between 25%-30% on Task Manager, and the little bar on the header keeps rotating.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?! Some have suggested unplugging and others say End Task, but in either case it sounds like the possibility of bricking is high. One who unplugged found he had the BIOS update installed when he rebooted, so maybe there is a problem with verifying to FW (wherever that is) and the process is essentially finished. I Hope!

Dell's driver recommendation only list the latest file available. The BIOS should have been installed in order, oldest to newest =
Since you did not and are stuck, the only option is to reboot the system and hope that the BIOS A08 actually installed. If it no post, then we know that the CMOS is corrupted.
