Inspiron 5558/Win 7 won't wake from keyboard.

It only wakes up with the power button.

Any suggestions on how wake it from the keyboard (like my XP did)?

Hi bobA,

Please follow the steps mentioned below to enable the Keyboard and mouse to wake the computer.

1. Open the Windows Control panel, and then open both the mouse and the Keyboard.
2. On the Hardware tab in the Properties dialog box that appears, click Properties.
3. On the Power Management tab, select Allow this device to wake the computer.

If a Power Management tab does not appear in the Mouse Properties dialog box, the device might not support waking from sleep or standby. To support this action, you might need to upgrade the driver. Please let us know if this helps

Neither the mouse nor the keyboard dialogs have a Power Management tab.

Where can I get drivers to support this?

Waking from the keyboard/mouse was available on every Dell computer (total of six) I have owned since Win XP. It is VERY important to my computer use. If this cannot be done then my new Dell is useless to me.

I would suggest you to try flashing the BIOS and update Unifying Application on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the operating system, and then download the BIOS from the BIOS section and Unifying Application from Mouse, Keyboard & Input Devices onto the system and install it.

Hi.

Unfortunately, flashing the BIOS did not work and the Unifying program is ONLY for Logictech devices.

It seems that when the computer goes to sleep, it goes into a deep sleep that nothing (keyboard, mouse, network, USB) can wake it except for the power button.

Are the any registry keys that would allow what I need to happen?

I’d suggest that you update chipset driver on your computer and check if the power management is available. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, then download the chipset from chipset section onto the system and install it.

Hi.

I updated the 4 files that make up the Chipset and I still have the same problem of:

Nothing will "wake" the computer from Sleep except pressing the Power Button.

This is the only computer (6 Dells, an HP and an Acer) that would not let the keyboard or a USB keyboard wake the computer.

There must be a Registry Key that can enable power to the USB ports when the computer is asleep. Like I said earlier, if this cannot be done on this computer, then it is of no use to me.

ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi BobA,

The option to wake the computer through the keyboard and mouse seems to be not available on your system. The other option is to perform manual reinstallation of the operating system to check if the power management tab comes up.

Hi.

This is a brand new computer. I have no intention of reinstalling Windows and ALL of it's updates. That's like buying a new car that stalls and the dealer tells you to reinstall the engine!

When you said "seems to be not available" you didn't sound very sure.

One thing I AM SURE OF is that this new PC seems to be defective, in that it is the ONLY Windows based PC that cannot be woken by the internal keyboard or a USB keyboard.

Can you ask one of the tech gurus if there is a way to enable this?

Again, if this cannot be done, then the computer is defective and I would like Dell to authorize Staples to take it back as it is of no use to me like it is.
