Inspiron 5559 Battery not charging when plugged in.

Suddenly my battery is not charging when I'm plugged in.  Laptop is  8 month old Inspiron 15 5559.

The problem seems to've started when I installed the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on 8/2/2016.  Battery is at 81%, I'm plugged in but it's not charging.  In an effort to resolve the problem I went to the Dell Power Manager and changed the setting from Adaptive to Custom, then set it to start charging when at or below 90% and stop charging at 99%, but that didn't help.  I rebooted and checked again but again no help.

What can be done to resolve this?

RE: Inspiron 5559 Battery not charging when plugged in.

Go to Dell Drivers and Downloads and see if there are updated drivers for windows 10.

Change back to original settings on Power Settings.

Thanks for the reply.  I went there, but there was no solution there.

Does the system recognize the AC adapter or does that show unknown?  F2 at powerup to check.

RE: Inspiron 5559 Battery not charging when plugged in.

Hi WALTERPG,

Are you using an original Dell Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?

Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/29zJPne- this BIOS was recently released.

Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).

Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.

Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Let us know if you have any other queries.

RE: Inspiron 5559 Battery not charging when plugged in.

Rishi, thanks for replying to my post here re my battery not charging on 8 month old Inspiron 5559.  By the time I got your reply I'd done a search in the Microsoft Windows 10 forums and found the solution.  They said to shut down and remove the battery, then wait 3 minutes, re-install the battery and reboot.  That fixed the problem!   If you could inform me as to why this worked, I'd sure love to know,  Just FYI before doing that I started the Support Assist and ran both the short and long diagnostics; they found no problems.  I've made no changes to the charger or any other parts of the hardware.

I've never made any changes to Windows other than installing the updates from Microsoft and some programs that have been working trouble free in the 8 months since I bought this laptop.  Examples are Firefox, Chrome, MS Office 2007, then 2016, Norton security suite I get from Comcast, Quicken 2013, MS Streets & Trips, MS Works Suite 2004, MalwareBytes (free version), Easeus Todo Backup Free.  Solsuite from Treecardgames is the only game I've installed.

I've sent you a private message with my service tag as you requested.  Thank you.

I'm gonna take a guess here and I'm assuming you press the "Power On" button for 3 minutes.....

Removing the battery and pressing "Power On" button for 3 minutes discharged "Static Flea Power". Usually most people recommend pressing Power On button from anywhere 15 seconds to 1 minute. I've heard stories that people have press power button anywhere from 3 minutes to 10 minutes and were able to get the battery to start charging again. I also thought you might have calibrate your laptop battery. Please click on link below:

RE: Inspiron 5559 Battery not charging when plugged in.

Thanks for the reply but I didn't press the power button for anything more than a second to reboot after removing the battery, and again after 5-10 Min. after I'd shut down again to reinstall the battery, then power back up.  And I didn't do any of the things in that article you posted a link to.  I did nothing more or less than what I said in the original post, and that fixed the problem.  I'm mystified as to why but delighted to have my laptop working like it's supposed to again.
