Inspiron 5749 HDMI port not working
Hello,
I've got a Inspiron 5749 17" laptop.
I am trying to connect a 2e monitor to it but i can't seem to get it working.
When i try to detect the monitor i does nothing.
I've tried the following things:
* Update video drivers to latest (Intel and Nvidia)
* Update bios
* Tried serveral hdmi and displayport cables.
* Monitor is working on a other system.
What can I do more ??
Please help...
Regards Dennis.

You may have already known about this but if not if may prove to be useful, it is a guide on monitor usage and discusses connecting external monitors to notebooks.
Here is a document on connecting specifically on connecting external monitors. This document goes over the Windows settings to configure the monitor in Windows
These options will let you configure the screens as follows:
PC screen only - The second screen is ignored and only the PC’s primary display is used.
Duplicate - The second screen mirrors, the primary display.
Extend - The PC display is extended across the two screens and allows you to have a desktop that spans two screens or
to use Windows UI on one screen and the desktop on the other.
Second screen only - The main PC display will be disabled and only the secondary screen is used.
For traditional Desktop mode:
Other things that I can think of is make sure that you have the AC adapter attached to the notebook. I suggest going into control panel / power options / power plans and change the plan to “high performance”.
If at all possible try another monitor just to verify that it isn’t come incompatibility with your monitor. Please let me know if you continue to have problems.

I understand now that HDMI and Displayport don't match..
My laptop has a HDMI port and the monitor has a Displayport.
So now i have to look for a adapter that can link the two together..
Thanks.
