Inspiron 6400 Video Troubles Lagging On Games

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400, recently i had to format it because over the mounths it had started to get slower and slower because of allot of old stuff i neva used.

After i reinstalled windows and all of the drivers and programs i noticed that some of my games were very laggy, before i formated the laptop they seemed to run perfectly, i have used the same graphics driver off of the dell website.

I have the Intel 945GM Chipset

Is there anything im doing wrong or anything i could chage?

The dell diagnostics come up fine as i was thinking this could be a hardware failure

Thanks in advance

Is the OS vista. If so,after reinstall did you check for and let windows update ( vista hotfix for gaming KB940105) download?...If this is not the case run msconfig and see if too many programs are running at start up.

No the OS i am using is Windows Xp Professional SP2, I have run msconfig and i only have the basic programs starting up for example drivers, and anti-virus.

As for the updates i have installed all avalible updates although i will check to see if more eed t be installed.

Do you think the graphics could be overheating?

Thanks

No i dont think so,run a disk defragment and see if that helps. This will usually take about 45 minutes to one hour depending on the fragmentation of the hard drive.

i have run the defrag today through the built in window defragmentation tool, the games however still lagged and remaind jumpy

i have so far had no luck i hve even tried a past driver of off the dell website and this dosent seemed to have worked either :S, it seems to me like a driver issue however i have tried both the latest driver and the privious driver off of the dell website.

Do you have your anti virus or firewall running in background when gaming,if so try turning these off only when gaming and see if this helps.

Try the new driver from intel

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2301

(you might need to uninstall the old driver first if you get an error message)

and the lates directX update from microsoft

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en

I get excellent video results with these, way above average acording to PCPitstop.

I don't know what kind of games you try to run ...though you've said they were OK before you reinstalled windows. Make a quick check here and see if your hardware meets the requirements.

You could also do a quick restore (about 10 minutes) of your PC with the Symantec restore option, this brings your PC back to the state when you first turned it on for the first time...with all programs and so on...
