Inspiron 700m Battery Charging/Identification Problem
For the past 2 months my laptop would sometimes present this message at startup:
WARNING
The battery cannot be identified.
This system will be unable to charge the batteries until this battery is removed.
Press F1 to continue.
The battery cannot be identified.
This system will be unable to charge the batteries until this battery is removed.
Press F1 to continue.
Now it is at every startup and my laptop battery is not being charged nor can the laptop run on battery power. I have tried replacing the battery with my friend's (same laptop and battery model) but I still get the same warning at startup and battery will not work. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

The new issue of Consumer Reports has a notebook-reliability survey. Guess what? All the major brands are about the same, and the major-repair frequency is the same for all of them - upward of 20%.
That's not surprising, given that no matter whose name is on the machine, notebooks are made by the same handful of companies - Quanta, Compal, ASUS, Wistron, Arima, Clevo, etc.

You will probably receive a better response from the community if you post your issue as a new post, rather than replying to this older thread.
