My Inspiron 17 7000 arrived late October and I have been trying to figure out the secrets of sleep mode to no success. Sometimes it seems as if the laptop is trying to wake up, you can hear the hum of the laptop, and the lights in the front flicker - but the black screen remains. Extremely frustrating when I leave the laptop unattended for longer periods of time and have to reboot. You would think that DELL would take this flaw seriously and have it fixed. Removing the sleep function should not be an option as I'm sure the life of the screen will be greatly diminished - and this was not a cheap lap top.
Actually windows 8 already has sleep feature (built in) but intel rapid start some how suppose to be more advance than common windows "sleep" feature, unfortunately not working well ... keep crashing during wakeup after enter sleep mode.
So while waiting Dell fix this "sleep" mode issue , i turn off "intel rapid start" and use normal windows "sleep and hybernate" feature ...
because i am afraid if my laptop keep crashing , it will damage my data ....
my inspiron 15 7000 series is giving me serous problem about sleep mode I change the hard drive because of that but that didn't fix the problem I called dell tech support and they have these tech support in the united states I even told the agent ill report this kind of support he was giving me to online reader and he said that was my perception so after struggling with dell bad computer and their tech support, I gave up on that laptop and went back to best buy and purchase hp laptop and I'm not having that problem I still have the dell siting in my table for nothing so dell please listen to your customers and retrain your tech support to stop arguing with customers
I too have an Inspiron 17 7737 with this fault, ie the computer goes into sleep whatever you try and do, and to get it out of sleep you have to turn it off by pressing the power button for 5s, then release the button and give it a quick press to start the computer again.
If the computer is left with the power off the battery goes flat !!!
All windows settings associated with 'sleep' are turned off, with 'hibernate' chosen wherever possible.
Intel Rapid start is off.
Interestingly, it went into hibernate with no problems when I was running win8, but the bios and loads of drivers have changed since then !
PLEASE RECOGNISE THIS FAULT DELL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It does seem that Rapid Start is the cause - but its not as simple as turning it off in windows - you have to disable it in the BIOS !
That requires jumping through hoops too, as F2 does not seem to work now, so you have to use F12 to get the boot options screen and then go into 'setup'.
Good luck 🙂
