Inspiron N5110 RAM upgrade

Hi,

I am currently using my Inspiron N5110 for a couple of years now and it has begun to go into it's limits at my work. I currently have 4 GB of RAM installed but I noted that I have a second RAM slot free still where I can install a second RAM chip and I could potentially go up to 16 GB

My question: what are the things I need to keep in mind buying a RAM? Specific types? And is installing RAM as simple as plugging the chip into slot? I was thinking of upgrading to 8 or 12 GB.

Thanks in advance!

Hi t.f.g.geelen,

Welcome to the Dell Community Forum.

I have checked the specification for your system :

A) Min/Max memory is 2048 MB / 8192 MB

B) Memory type is 1333 MHz DDR3

C) Number of Slots: 2

Ideally, the two memory modules should be identical and yes it’s just a plug and play device.

Do let me know if you have further queries.

Hi Geoffrey,

One question only:

You mean that each slot can have up to 8192 MB of RAM so totalling a maximum of 16 right?

Thanks,

Hi t.f.g.geelen,

Each slot would have 4 GB since the Max. that you can add on your system is 8GB.

Do let me know if you have further queries.

Hi Geoffrey,

From the general specs on my laptop I read that my laptop could support up to 16 GB RAM. Why is it that you say the maximum is 8 GB (2x4GB)?

Hi t.f.g.geelen,

As per our specification the Max memory shows 8GB.
