Inspiron n5050 hibernation problem

Hello,
I am trying to fix this computer for my girlfriend, she recently got this computer from her older brother its specs are nice and everything but the problem is when the computer is closed it enters hibernation/sleep mode but it won't wake up. There is a fix for it when the computer is running on vista via hotfix but the computer is running on Win7 currently; is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

Hi MrNergles,

Please update the BIOS and video drivers of the system from the link http://dell.to/18NmI2D. Enter the Service Tag of your system and select the operating system. You will find the video driver under 'Video' and BIOS under 'BIOS' tab. Also, under power options set Closing lid action to do nothing. Also, turn off the Hybrid Sleep.

Note: Make sure the AC adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.

If the issue still persist, try disabling and re-enabling the hibernation. You may refer to the link http://dell.to/19H0brE for the instructions.

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

I've been having the exact same problem with mine since I got it over a year ago.  Dell sent a tech out to replace the hard drive (why, I haven't a clue), but nothing seems to help.  I swear the problem seems to me to be in the start button.  I'm going to call them AGAIN today and see if there's not something they can do from that end.
