Inspiron n5050 integrated webcam does not work properly

Hello, I have a weird problem with my integrated webcam. While I'm using it in skype firstly it is working but then it turns off itself. After running manually a couple of times, skype cannot see and detect the camera at all. Sometimes camera turns on and off itself a couple of times, then it goes again :(

My OS is Windows-7, 64 bit

I tried to understand if it is a problem about skype but probably not because I installed Dell webcam center and webcam is not working at all.

I uninstalled the driver and installed again but same things happened.

Please let me know what I can do.

Thanks in advance

Hi haberci,

Refer the following link which has steps to resolve the issue:

http://dell.to/18tJTi2

If the webcam is not detected in device manager, we may need to replace the webcam.

If the issue persists, run diagnostics on webcam.

Under component select camera and click on Run diagnostics.

Awaiting your response!

Thank you for the quick response.

Unfortunately problem is not solved. I followed all the steps that you suggested. Also diagnostic test results show that everything is OK about the camera.

Problem is about the driver I think. When I restart my laptop camera works properly for few minutes. Then, suddenly camera is not recognized by the system. Even it switches between recognized and  derecognized for several times. When it is not recognized, I see camera as an unknown device in the device manager.

As I said diagnostic shows everything is OK when the driver is recognized, but when it is not, diagnostic just reports that "Could not contact client service".

What else can I do?

Hi haberci,

Uninstall and reinstall the webcam software from the computer.

  • Click Start.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Using the drop-down menu next to View by: in the upper-right corner, select Large Icons.
  • Click Programs and Features.
  • Click Dell Webcam Central.
  • Click Uninstall.
  • Confirm the uninstall process by clicking OK.
  • Once uninstalled restart the computer.

Hi, thank you for the response,

I did what you said, just now, but still I get exactly the same error :emotion-7:

By the way, I tried my friend's webcam on my laptop, it perfectly works. I don't understand why mine is not

Hi haberci,

Probably a loose connection is causing the webcam to disconnect/re-connect. Take a technician’s help and attempt to reseat the webcam connections. Start the computer, uninstall and then re-install the webcam drivers and check if the webcam is working. If the issue is still not fixed restore your computer to an earlier date when the webcam was working.

Do reply with results.

Good day I have had the same issue, and had to do a wide search across the web to find out how to fix the issue, and came across a solution that could be helpful.

With new versions of Skype, the integrated camera seems to be disable with out anyway of reconnecting it, so reinstalling older version sorts the problem out.

Download link:

Check with online Webcam testers to see if your integrated web might actually be faulty.

This has worked form me.:emotion-2:

Hope it helps others
