Intel 3945ABG + Vista + WPA-PSK problems

Hi Guys,

My laptop is a Dell XPS M1210 running Vista Business. The wireless interface is a Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. My internet connection is through D-link 714P+ Router. The router has the latest firmware.

The wireless is secured using WPA-PSK, with SSID set to broadcasting mode and no MAC filtering. The XPS laptop can see the router (4/5 signal strength) and when attempting to connect, I get the error "Wireless Authentication failed because of a timeout". In Event Viewer, the detailed root cause is given as "Layer 2 security key exchange did not generate multicast keys before timeout."

After some troubleshooting, I narrowed the problem down to a combination of Intel 3945 ABG + Vista + WPA-PSK. There are some posts on the internet regarding this problem, with no vaild soultions:

WEP is not an option for me. I have tried Vista, Dell and the generic Intel drivers for the wireless interface. The problems remains. Is there anything else I can try, other than to downgrade to XP??

Please help. Thanks.
