Is earthing required ?

Hi,

I purchased my Dell Inspiron 1545 2 months back.

And today I found out that, the motherboard has got some problem. The engineer replaced the motherboard

and told me me that I am not having earthing in my house and I need to get it done.

He said that because of no earthing the parts of laptop will get damaged or reduce the lifetime (e.g. battery, hard-disk, motherboard).

So my question are,

does earthing required ?

If no earthing is there, will parts get damaged or lifetime will be reduced ?
