Is my sound card capable of 16 bit recording?

I want to install voice recognition software on my inspiron 4000. The sound card is an ESS Maestro PCI Audio (WDM). The software requires a Creative Sound Blaster 16 or equivalent card supporting 16 bit recording. Does my card have these capabilities?

Thanks, in advance, to anyone who can help with my question.

The itegrated audio in your Inspiron is SoundBlaster equivalent, meaning it will perform pretty much the functions of an SB card including 16 bit recording.

But it isn't SoundBlaster compatible, meaning a clone of an SB16 with the ability to utilise SB drivers.

These terms are not standardized and can mean different things to different people. You might want to contact the software manufacturer to make sure you understand their requirements.
