Laptop USB-C to HDMI monitor

Please help me.

Can I use USB 3.1 Type C to HDMI Adapter for connect secondary monitor?

I want to use one monitor by HDMI port and secondary monitor by USB 3.1 Type C to HDMI Adapter.

I have bought same adapter another manufacturer and the adapter does not work.

What specific Dell laptop model? What specific monitor models? Link to the adapter that you bought.

No -- the output of video requires a thunderbold connection (which is not the same as USB 3.1).

@ejn63, that is not correct at all.  Non-Thunderbolt USB-C connections can have a single DisplayPort 1.2 output wired to them -- otherwise the WD15 dock wouldn't be able to support video without using DisplayLink chips like the D3100 does, but the WD15 doesn't use those because they don't provide as good an experience.  Google "DisplayPort Alternate Mode" for more info.

The question is whether the OP's laptop has a USB-C connection that has a GPU output wired to it.  Not all of them do since it's ALLOWED by the spec, but not REQUIRED.

I probably should have made the statement specific to Dell systems - unless there's a Thunderbolt port, video out is not supported - on Dell systems.

For those who like technical details, I wrote a long post about USB-C and Thunderbolt here: en.community.dell.com/.../20017807

^ Still not true.  The Latitude 7480 when ordered without Thunderbolt still specifically says "with DisplayPort over USB-C", just as one example.
