Laptop doing strange things

My buddy has an Inspiron 1525 and when he rests his hand on the left palm rest the computer seems to go into sleep mode.  If he flexes the corner it will come back on to the log on screen.  We removed and inserted the hard drive but it still has the problem. None of the display lights in the lower left corner work but the power light will come on when the corner is flexed.

Sounds to me like the sensor that detects the laptop being closed is at fault, if when your buddy rests on the laptop it bends some of the plastic slightly it may cause the laptop to go to sleep. Bending it back seems to resolve it so chances are its stuck below where it shouldn’t be.

I’d suggest contacting Dell if its still under warranty. failing that have someone experienced in laptop repair to remove the top cover of the laptop to locate the sensor and ensure that its properly seated and that there’s no damage.
