Laptop screen blank or dead xps?

I have a xps 1730 laptop. It is around 4 years old. My screen is blank. I cut it off and it was working fine. Next day I went to turn it on and I got nothing, just a blank screen. Hard drive light comes on for a split second but then never comes back on. I have tried to the dvi to another's screen but still blank. It seems like the whole lap top is dead. I even tried replacing the cr2032 battery but nothing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Hi farmnredneck

Welcome to the Dell community. Thank you for providing the detailed description about the issue you are facing on the system. I would recommend you to follow these steps and let us know the results

• Remove the battery and the adaptor from the system and hold the power button for 30 seconds and then turn on the system

• Ensure that there is light on the adaptor when plugged into the wall outlet

• Run the hardware diagnostic by using a combination of ‘ Fn and power button ‘ or tap the F12 key on the dell logo screen and select diagnostics option. Observe and note any error code(s) or beep code(s) during the diagnostics

• Check for system LED’s flash codes on top of the keyboard.

Please revert with observations

Sorry, what came up was #'s 1-9 top to bottom. Nothing else, no codes or anything beside the numbers. Is it something you could email or try it again. Thanks again

just to let you know the LED lights were blue and flashed left to right. Not one stayed on. They just keep flashing left to right.
