Latitude C600 bios flash

Hi there

 

I have C600 with a fan problem , it is on all the time , I have been informed that I Flash the bios which me help , firstl I am not sure has what to do , I went to the dell downloads to check what is there , there is 4 different methods but three of them require a bootable floppy , but I dont have one ,only a CD-Rom , can anyone give me some info , as to how I go about to do this Flash thing !! .

The probable cause of the constant fan running is an accumulation of dust on the Microprocessor Thermal Cooling Assembly and Hybrid Cooling Fan. The Service Manual at this link explains how to get access to these parts. Get a can of Dust Remover non-flammable gas from an Electronic Parts store to safely get rid of the dust.

And after you get the dust all out of it, use i8kfangui to control the heat.

Hi there

 

thanks for your reply , there is two types of downloads for the   i8kfangui , 32 bit and 64 bit , how can I see which one is for me .

Your CPU doesn't support 64 bit.  It is a P3.

Thanks for all your help , I downloaded the the 32bit version , and whala sorted , what a neat little program , I dont know what i would do without all you guy's on this forum ,thanks again .

Spike, glad to help.  John is right, I hope you got rid of the dust first.  Even intense airflow throught the fan will blow a lot of dust out the side vent.  A can of compressed air or even you blowing really hard works to get a lot out, but don't inhale for one thing, and it does not get all the dust, for the other.
