Latitude D420 no network
I had to reinstall XP on my Latitude D420 and now WIFI and Ethernet don't work. Device Manager shows drivers are not installed even tho I downloaded and installed all the drivers I found in the Drivers section. Can someone tell me the specific location of the drivers I need? Thanks.

I found the touch pad driver. Everything works great with Win7. Should have done this years ago. Thanks for your help.

Geodesiq,
When you reinstalled the operating system, did you install the Dell System Software(if applicable) and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
Start with the Dell System Software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.

I have to uninstall all the drivers first? Is there a quick & easy way to do that? I'm thinking of upgrading to Win7. Will the drivers still work?

Geodesiq,
Install in this order
Dell Notebook System Software, v.5.1.0, A25
Microsoft Secure Digital I/O (SDIO), v.6.0.4069.1, A02
Intel Mobile Chipset, v.7.2.2.1006, A09
Ricoh R5C832, R5C843, R5C833, v.1.0.1, A00
Then download and install
Broadcom 57XX Gigabit Integrated Controller and NetXtreme 5721C1 NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet PCI-E Driver
Go to Dell Warranty Status enter your service tag, click on original configuration. Look and see what adapter is installed. Then go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag, select your operating system. Under network download the drivers for your adapter.
Then download and install Dell QuickSet, v.8.3.11, A47
Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled
Second part of your question. I cannot say if Windows 7 will or will not work. There are Vista drivers that may work in the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode

I was able to get online with the ethernet cable but WIFI still wants a password. It will only let me type in numbers not letters. It's asking for a "Device Ownership Password."

I see the network now but it won't let me log on. When I use the IP CD it says to turn off the Intel utility. When I use the Intel utility it won't let me type in the password. The keyboard just beeps. Unbelievable. What genius decided the Microsoft network software wasn't good enough?

Decided to try Win7. Works great! Didn't even have to install drivers. The only problem is the scroll area on the trackpad doesn't work. Which driver should I try?
