Latitude D600 and windows 7

Hello,

I have a Latitude d600.  I have installed windows 7.  But I want to install drivers and update some.  But I only see windows 2000 and XP as option.  Anyway I can get the windows 7 drivers for my Latitude?

You can download the Windows VIsta driver from the AMD website under the ATI Video card driver section. The install program will work just fine.

I have installed Windows 7 on D600 and D610 and D600 and even another minor variant without a CD/DVD rom) and it will install just fine. You won't have the right gfx driver off top and the network driver but the Windows XP driver you can get DOES work. Windows 2000 on up will work the problem is it's not signed.

Install the Windows XP version FIRST, if it doesn't stick install the Windows 2000 version. All you really need is the .INF file which is usually the biggest problem I had on a few of those systems. Point to the right one it works like a charm. I don't have a spare one on hand but I am 100% positive it works.

Yes it is but you can upgrade the ram, cd rom, network card, HDD and be in business. Works fine I've installed over 20 of those with Windows XP and Windows 7. You can get it to work with 512MB of ram and lower as long as you start with 512 MB of ram. Works fine runs smooth like windows xp (no sp) did.

There are generic drivers for Dell Latitude D600 because I have all the generic drivers and if using these drivers, this laptop can handle Windows 7.

A Kind Internet Citizen has compiled the best working Windows 7 drivers for this laptop and many others in the Latitude series on the following page:

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/24430-Unofficial-Dell-Latitude-D*00-D*10-driver-pack-resource

This is the best we will ever get for these laptops, and Windows 7 is fully functional on them with correct drivers if you are patient.  Some of the drivers need to be manually updated, and if you are not good with computers/Windows, I suggest you have your techie relative/buddy take a look at the drivers and instructions on the aforementioned link.

Best of luck to you all, and shame on Dell for not taking the trivial amount of time to support their old customers and systems.  The only customer they seem to cherish is the repeat customer who buys new computers instead of upgrading them, but they should be aware that without good support, their old customers will be hesitant at best to be repeat customers.  Good day.

Audio now works just great!  Thanks much.  Will be trying the wireless when I get some Cat 5 cable.

The ATI Auto detect driver will not work for ancient vacuum tube X300 and X600 mobile. The legacy drivers are Catalyst 10 not catalyst 14.  Current drivers will not see ANY ATI card at all. ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 does not have 128 meg video and does not support vista or 7.

The 32 bit XP Vista Audio driver is here:

I haq got a Dell Latitude D600 myself. I downloaded the driver from Dell's website for Windows XP. Work just fine for me. Mine has a 120GB hard drive and 2gb of memory. The system rating is 2.7. The lowest rating is because of the graphics. But still that is good for the age of the laptop. But the driver isn't the best though. It doesn't make the icons small or anything. Best resolution is 1024 x 768. But still it worked just fine.

I alos have another question about a different D600, Laptop works fine until I install the video driver for it. I have Windows XP on this one. I am having a machine for each Windows. All are Dell's. I have a Dell Precision Workstation 690 with Windows 8.1 (64 Bit). I have a Dell XPS M1710 that has Windows 8.1(64 BIt) as Well. I have a Dell Optiplex 320 with Windows 7 Ultimate (64 Bit) I got this laptop used and it works until you install the video driver and Windows logo comes up and then it goes black. What is going on. If anyone can answer that, please do.

I OWN A DELL LATITUDE D600, IT RUNS GREAT IN XP HOME EDITION BUT I TRIED IT SUCCESSFULLY WITH VISTA BUSINESS 32 BIT AND IT DID INSTALL ALL DRIVERS(AUDIO, VIDEO AND WIRELESS) WITH NO PROBLEMS. IT INSTALLS WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL 32 BIT WELL AND DID COMPATIBILITY FOR XP INSTALL ON THE AUDIO, VIDEO AND WIRELESS DRIVERS AND IT DID INSTALL SUCCESSFULLY. SO IT DOES TAKES WINDOWS 7 AND DRIVERS BUT THERE IS IS NO UPDATES FOR THESE DRIVERS.
