Latitude D800 smartcard reader
Were there any D800's made
without the smartcard reader?
Thanks in advance for any reply...!

I hate to be a pest, but ... are you sure? ;)
The thing is practically invisible. It shares the same physical opening in the case with the PCcard slot. The Smart Card goes in just below where the PCcard would; a little ways inside the case opening there's a thin metal barrier between the two "slots".
and from the user's guide:
Of course it would show up in Device Manager, too.
Another data point: I find only one version of the D800 User's Guide at Dell, and it has the above illo and instructions. Unlike, say, the 8600 vs. the 8600C (no serial or parallel ports). And I've found several reviews that stated that the Smart Card reader was standard on the D800.
So... would you mind checking again?

(D800 bought new from Dell, twelve months ago).
Can it take an SD?
