Yes, assuming you get a screen known to be compatible with the system (don't just buy any screen - notebooks work only with those screens they ship with from the factory!)
Thanks. So if I am able to replace it with an LED type backlit 1600x900 display it should be OK. Also can you give me the DELL part number and also the manufacturer and manufacturer part numbers for a 14" WLED HD+ 1600x900 display supplied with DELL E6420.
I called DELL spare parts and gave the agent my service tag number. he was able to confirm that DELL model 'WJ139' (HD+ WLED 1600x900) was compatible with my current faulty 1366x768 (MJ154) LED display. Still not absolutely sure...
Also wondering about the video cable. i believe the connector on the LED display as the same (40pin) so therefore I'm guessing my cable should be OK.
Can someone in DELL Tech support confirm that they are in fact compatible and the video cable is the same. Thanks in advance. There's not much price difference from DELL so I'd prefer to replace with higher res screen.
A quick search indicates that part was used in the E-series so it should work. You should get a new data cable for it though - even if the cables look the same outside, it's very often true that cables for higher-resolution displays have more wires connected than those for lower-resolution displays.
upgrading my E6520 from a 1366x768 to 1920x1080 did require me to upgrade the video cable so I would assume it would be the same for the E6420.
For reference, I believe the Dell Part number for the E6420 video cable that supports the HD+ 1600x900 resolution is XJJFC.
