Latitude E6420: why 32-bit?
Hello everyone,
The Latitude E6420 I purchased a few months ago came with Windows 7 Professional preinstalled - the 32-bit version, that is - even though the machine is perfectly capable of supporting the 64-bit version of W7, which I found a bit odd. After having run the original installation for a few days, I reinstalled the system using the 64-bit version and the same product key.
Two questions here:
1. Why did Dell choose to preinstall the 32-bit version of Windows when the machine seems perfectly capable of supporting 64-bit to begin with?
2. Would I - and the machine - have been better off staying with the original 32-bit installation? If yes, b. should I ditch the 64-bit installation and revert back to 32-bit?
Thanks in advance,
Shady

Dell are generally preinstalling the 64 bit version of Windows 7 on the Latitude E Series. This system can use the 64 bit version of Windows:

You can put 8 GB of RAM in your laptop to get the best performance, 32 bit maxes out at ~3.5 GB so I would recommend sticking to the 64 bit.

They made 32 bit Windows 7 available on some business models generally 64 bit was the default and 32 bit was optional. I don't know why but you can use either on the model, the 64 bit will better especially if you later upgrade your memory to 8 GB.
