I have a Latitude XT running Vista 32bit, 64GB SSD, Bluetooth 360, and Dell 1395 WLAN card. My issue has been when I am pulling or sending large amounts of information accross the network, my Wireless stops functioning and acts as if I disabled the card. I cannot search for any networks and opening the mobility center I can turn the wireless off and on but it will not work till I reboot the Tablet.
My XT has all the current OS and Driver updates but this is really starting to bug me. This happened to me 2 times yesterday when I was copying an Adobe Standard 8 DVD to a server so that we can do installs without needing to carry the DVD. I would get about half way through the file transfer and my network would disconnect with a red X.
I'm at a loss and could use some help.
Thanks in advance!
i recently pruchased 36 XT tablets for a business. they are all doing the same thing. Dell suggested checking the authentication scheme. i have also tried replacing the 1395 WLAN cards with different wireless adapters. testing is in progress.
I've got the same problem. I've tried different drives, different OSes, different firmwares....all with no change. I'm going to try swapping out the card with an Intel one since this Dell 1395 card is a piece of junk.
Hi, after replacing my main board twice and the wireless card three times dell agreed to replace my XT with an XT2.
I dont have nearly as many problems with my XT2, however, problems are caused by using a media slice with both machines. Also both machines suffer from unresponsive screens from sleep, particularly when trying to log in with finger print recognition. The delay can be several annoying seconds to a minute to wait. Most of the time I give up and type in my password.
Also my XT2 suffers from not waking up my Mobile Broadband card from sleep sometimes.
In all honesty, if I hadnt invested so much money in my Latitude XT, knowing the problems I have had I wouldnt have bought it.
Good luck with yours. If I can give you any advice - get online technical support involved via online chat - they are very good and helpful.
I will be calling mine in finally this Friday. I thought the issue whent away till last week. I think it's a heat issue since my XT works fine untill I start heavily using my Wireless.
Streaming Audio = Wireless connection dies in about 15 to 20 minutes
Initial system backup with Windows Home server = Wireless connection dies again in about 15 to 20 minutes
Transferring large files or copying data Cd to Network = Wireless connection dies at the usual 15 to 20 minutes.
Would love to get mine replaced with an XT2 but I doubt they will do that. 😞
Oh well either way, I'll know more Friday.
ChrisAldrich1 how are the XT2s? I will be ordering 20 of them later this year for our EHR. I absolutly love my personal XT other then minor performance issues (SSD isn't as lightning fast as they say it is) and of course the wireless connection issue.
I am a lot happier with my XT2. I still have issues with niggly things like the touchscreen simply stopped the other day (for seemingly no reason) and I had to reinstall the driver. After a couple of restarts it came back on. Finger print login seems to have a mind of its own.
Apart from that I am fairly happy with it, however I have had more reliable laptops from Dell over the years. I think they are trying to cram to much into this one.
Good luck Chris
LOL Yeah Dell does cram alot into these little tablets. I read that you can even run dual screens off the XT2 on a media base (not including the tablet display) due to the newer 4500 gpu. 🙂
I had alot of issues with the Fingerprint reader till Dell updated the drivers and software package. Now my Finger swipe issues are 98% user error trying to swipe at the wrong angle or what not.
Besides the Wireless, the screen Orientation has been playing havok the last couple months where I log in, rotate the screen, start working and it rotates it back to where it was while I'm trying to use it. I get this twice in a row and then it behaves. This is usually due to me trying to use it before it had fully loaded my desktop though.
One more thing, Do you use the 9cell battery slice at all? Just curious on an actual runtime of the XT2 with the 6cell and the 9cell attached. The smoother I can make it for my Docs and nurses the better it will be for all of us. 🙂
Just hope they can take care of my Wireless issues this Friday.
I'm having the same situation. Vista Latitude XT Intel core 2 duo. In trying to upload files from my defunct computer to this one through Carbonite, it's turning off the wireless connection and it won't recognize any wireless anything (no connections available) until I reboot the thing...
Thoughts? I'd rather not ditch this computer yet...
