Max Memory on Dell Inspiron 15 (3521) Touch

I would trust Dell (the company that made the laptop) more than a memory company.  In any case, if Crucial will guarantee that it will accept 16GB... which means that if it doesn't work, they'll refund ALL your money (including shipping)... then I'd give it a shot.

I'm not sure if that Kingston memory will work or not.  According to the Kingston website, the following RAM is compatible with your laptop:

KTD-L3C/4G, KTD-L3CS/4G and KTD-L3CL/4G

FWIW, Kingston also says that your laptop has a max of 8GB.

It looks to be similar to the Kingston one you linked, but slightly cheaper.

BTW, Dell offers a 4GB DIMM for your laptop for $62.99.  It's more expensive than the one you linked, but they will guarantee that it'll work.

I do trust Dell, which is why I am doing my research because they don't often lead me astray.  I do know that the technology does move fast and sometimes with BIOS updates, or new CPU's/mobo chipsets the systems "CAN" indeed support more than they originally could.   It would not shock me at all that Dell says 8GB and supports 8GB, but it might in fact run just fine with 16GB.

Thanks for the link to the Crucial 4GB DIMM on Amazon.   In the reviews, somebody posted that they put this chip into a 3521 and it worked flawlessly, so that is exactly what I wanted to know.   My plan was to put this laptop on 8GB of RAM and now I know that I can do it.

Be careful - the link posted in the last message won't work - it's DDR-3 memory.  You MUST use DDR3L (low voltage) memory in this system.

That memory will work, DDR3L is simply DDR3 memory that runs at lowered voltages (1.35v).

"The DDR3L (DDR3 Low Voltge) standard is an addendum to the JESD79-3 DDR3 Memory Device Standard specifying low voltage devices. The DDR3L standard is 1.35V and has the label ’’PC3L’’ for its modules."

The crucial memory that was linked to runs at either 1.5v or 1.35v.

8MB 1600MHz DDR3 1600MHz DDR3 non-buffered is the memory that Dell said would work. No point adding a 4MB as they said I don't have to take the existing 4 MB out in order to add a new 8 MB!

On with Dell tech support right now on this.......unimpressed with their tech support thus far.....on hold for 3rd time....gone through 2 (on the 3rd one now).....they kept asking for my laptop number.

The guy just told me that you can only install 8 GB Max (4 GB per slot).

Not impressed with the tech support.....all Phillipinos and their English is not that good. 

Had to give the service tag 3 times and my name 3 times.....what a pain. 

I think the 8GB  would work, but I am still looking to see if anyone has done it successfully. 

Not sure if it just means it COULD crash sometimes or if it means I'm out of luck if I try this.    Wish someone could let me know.  We have a Dell Inspiron 3521 (15").  Came with 4GB and I want to add an 8GB to it for a total of 12GB.

Hi, I am an owner of a Dell Inspiron 15 3521 that is a touchscreen as well. I have upgrade my laptop to a 1TB Hard Drive. Right now, it has 12GB of Memory in it. It is showing all 12GB and it is running Windows 10 Pro. I say that it could support 16GB but I can't confirm this though. I have a 8GB and a 4GB in the machine right now. Same speed for each one of those. I hope this helps you out. The only thing I wish for that I have the original factory partition. When I purchased this laptop, the hard drive was bad and couldn't be saved. So I had a 500GB and then I upgraded to a 750GB and now I am at a 1TB. Good Luck.

To be fair, the 8GB limit is for the 32-bit system, while the 16GB limit is for the 64-bit. I have no idea why the limits are as such, but there it is.
