Memory upgrade for DELL INSPIRON 14 N4050

Jump to solution

Hello,

I'm planning for the RAM upgrade for my DELL INSPIRON 14 N4050 laptop & the current configurations are:

1.

2. 370-18553 : 2GB (1 x 2GB) 1 DIMM DDR3 1333Mhz

My question is:

1.How much capacity of the RAM is supported ?

2.What if i use 1600Mhz module rather than 1333Mhz ?

Thank You.

1. 8 G total, 2x4 max.

2.  The memory will run at 1066 MHz max -- to run 1333 you'd need an i7 CPU;  the system cannot run memory faster than 1333 even if 1600 is installed.

DDR3L will usually work in place of DDR3 memory -- so the lower voltage is usually not an issue.  That said, it's better to NOT MIX memory voltages - since you now have 1.5V, it's better to add 1.5V unless you're replacing the existing RAM, in which case you can use either, subject to verifying compatibility with your memory vendor.

Other than that it won't operate in dual channel mode (meaning it'll be a bit slower as a result), it'll work fine.

What happens to my system if I install a single 8gb stick & 2gb pre-installed stick at a time.

Most likely, the system won't boot.  Best case is that one of them - probably the 2 G - will be recognized and the 8 will not.

I apologize for writing inside of this post, instead of starting an entirely new one. But my question pertains to the question submitted above. I want to upgrade my n4050's DDR too. The motherboard is HM67, and the processor is Intel B815.

I would like to ask if buying and installing DDR with different voltage is possible? I have a good offer on memory of the following characteristics:

2x2GB and 2x4GB of DDR3 1600MHz, latency 11, 1.35V

The manufacturer is Samsung. Currently, my laptop has 2GB of DDR3, 1333MHz, lat 9, 1.5V. Manufactured by Samsung. 204 pin, and with a single row of chips. (I don't know if that is important?)

Will I damage my computer if I opt for the 2x4GB, in this case with different specs?

Will it work? I doesn't have to work at 1600MHz, I only wish it to serve the basic purpose and provide me with 8GB of RAM.

Thank you for your help.

In that case, I will replace the RAM completely, putting the lower voltage one. Or, I am also considering of adding just 4GB more, but of the same specification. Avoiding to waste a perfectly working 2GB module. Would a 2+4 combination strain the system in any way?

Ok, I understand. In order to have it working in dual channel, I will need a pair of equal DDR modules. I will be able to make my decision now.

Thank you for your time.
