Monitor Problem

Hello All,

New to the forum so please bare with me.

I have a very frustrating  problem--the light in my monitor is very, very dim. It started about three days ago when I logged on and the screen flashed and went dark. The next day after powering up the system the screen came on as usual and stayed on the entire time the system was on--I placed it in stand-by mode and upon powering up the system again, the screen went dark.

I tried pressing the fn key while also pressing the up arrow key. The screen lighten slightly on the right side but only enough to barely see items on the screen.
