Multiple Latitude E7450 laptops - Overheating & BSOD

Hi Dell!

We're seeing a strange phenomenon with our E7450's. Not all, but quite a few of them have been running quite hot, the fans spinning out of control, seemingly throttled CPU (when hot), choppy audio, and a few other issues which all lead up to a BSOD.

Any time I've pulled the dump files, it always leads to a very strange generic error that looks like a driver issue.

The most recent blue screen happened immediately after I tried connecting to WiFi.

We've ran diagnostics both in the OS and outside of the OS (using the built in diagnostics tools in the BIOS) - nothing has been found.

I'll provide whatever information you need, I'm going to try and re-image the problem machine, and see if this continues.

I'll include all dump files if you need them. I have about 10 .dmp and .xml files.

Hi ,

Thank you for providing the information about the troubleshooting performed on the system .

After you have re-imaged the system ,I would request  you to perform these troubleshooting steps .

*Update the system BIOS to the latest version .Click here to go to the Dell support site enter the service tag of the system and ensure the latest version of BIOS is installed on the system .( A04 is the latest version for this model  so before installing A04 ensure previous version is installed ) When the system BIOS gets corrupt it can alter the temperature  table ,effect the RPM of the fan causing overheating issues .

*Do make a note of BSOD 's seen on the system .

*Run on board dell diagnostics on the system and make a note of the error code .

I hope this helps ,do reply to this post with the result of these steps .

Kindest Regards ,

I, too, am now receiving similar reports from my end-users that have the E7450 (these are serving as our annual replacements).  A few reported multiple instances with their displays going blank (and coming back up, without doing any harm), while at least one reported a BSOD, which was documented as a thermal event under Windows 7.  [I posted much the same to "Latitude E7450 randomly shuts down."]

I have since applied BIOS update A04, as well as the latest Intel HD drivers, to at least two of these units.  A little too early to tell if this has resolved the issue...

Good day JDDFW,

Request you to perform the tests suggested earlier and advise the result .

Awaiting your response .

Kind Regards ,

Yes, the updated BIOS and Intel HD drivers appear to have resolved the display issues we experienced, but this had not resolved our one client's BSOD/Thermal Event...

I have since reinstalled the Intel Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework Drivers, and I have changed the associated service from "manual" to "automatic."

Windows 7: The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device... error

(I did not run the Dell Diagnostics for this particular unit, as of yet.)

We are currently having the Fan issue.

Currently running DIA and seeing that the CPU Thermistor is at 83C and the fan is going pretty good. All of the current reading for the Thermals are showing Current and High at the same temps.

The biggest gap is:

CPU  at 83c with high 83c

Ambient at 54c high 54c with low at 39c
