N7010 1st gen i7 cpu support
I have a N7010 with a dedicated ATI HD 5470, I've upgraded everything I could so far including the motherboard and cpu once already (integrated to dedicated and i3 to i5). I want to upgrade my cpu again, and am looking at either a i7 620m Arrandale, i7-720qm, or i7-q740qm Clarksfield. So far from my research these should be compatible with the HM57 Express chipset, and I've read it's been done before on n5010s. Would this be possible with a first gen i7 on a N7010 since they run off of the same HM57 express chipset?

The i7-620m was definitely an option with this system. The quad cores were not -- so the dual-core should work, but the quad may or may not.
If you have a 90W or lower power adapter, you will need a 130W unit to run an i7 -- or the CPU will throttle back.

Thanks for your help, another thing I'm concerned with is heat. I know that obviously a quad core will run hotter, and I've heard Clarksfield processors run fairly hot. Would this be a concern in terns of overheating too much? Also I noticed the quad cores run at 45W as opposed to the 35W dual cores and I don't know if these motherboards were built to support 45W cpus.

See above. The dual-core CPUs were shipped in the system and should work. The quad cores are unlikely to work - from a power standpoint and because the BIOS is not set up to recognize the Q CPUs.

Got it, and you said a 90w power supply wouldn't suffice for a dual core i7 without being throttled? I ask because the i7-620m runs the about the same as my current cpu spec and power-wise. I think the only difference is the slightly higher clock speed and slightly larger L3 Cache.

(I'm the OP) The i7-620m worked/is working. Power consumption seems about the same. Didn't try the 720qm but may in the future.

I have an n7010 with a broken screen (has been removed) and an i5- 460m. I'm currently using it to literally replace my desktop. I puchased a i7-740qm; the additional wattage draw is only another 8 watts, less than the LCD would of been consuming. the chipset the board uses and the socket should allow for the quad core but the bios appears to be locked to dual core processors. Is it possible to upgrade to this processor? Is there a version of the bios that can be used with a quad core processor?
