New Dell Inspiron 15 3520 Owner with Cursor Jumping - Computer Useless!

I teach online and my new Dell laptop Inspiron 15 3520 is useless.  I cannot use it in online chat with students because now the cursor is moving to other lines of text and inserting my typing.  I uninstalled the touchpad driver as that seems to be something recommended here.  I tried to reinstall from the Dell website and it failed.  So now I not only have an awful computer but a useless one.  I'm regretting the Dell decision after just a week.

Hi,

Welcome to the Community. The touchpad driver was uninstalled but not reinstalled back, or how did you go about uninstalling the touchpad driver on the computer? I recommend you try this, click on start, right click on computer, click on properties, click on device manager, click on the symbol next to pointing devices, right click on the Dell Touchpad Driver and click on uninstall. Click ok to confirm. Once removed restart your computer, and click on the below link to download and reinstall the touchpad driver.

Re: New Dell Inspiron 15 3520 Owner with Cursor Jumping - Computer Useless!

I also have the same and noticed recently the same problem happening to me . Whenever I type the cursor jumps around moving the letters, which is very annoying and is a waste of timeto mess up the typings after spending time on typing.

Any suggestions to correct the problem other than above ??

Re: New Dell Inspiron 15 3520 Owner with Cursor Jumping - Computer Useless!

Hi there!

I tried the uninstall and re-install using the link provided by the Dell support person.  It SEEMS to have worked, but I haven't been teaching on-line much the past few weeks so I still don't trust it as an absolute "fix".

The big question here is, I've seen posts complaining about this going back to about 2009!!!  Why on earth hasn't Dell addressed this in their touchpad driver or software or whatever is causing it?

No one wants to buy a brand new computer, bring it home and immediately begin having a MAJOR problem with it.  You know what they say - one negative experience, and the complaint goes around the world by word of mouth really fast.  If I personally had heard about this (should have done my research before just thinking Dell was a premium brand - apparently, it used to be) I would have chosen another brand.

Now I'm stuck - if it goes haywire again, I'm gonna be steamin' !!!  I've gone back to using my old e-Machine desktop most of the time except when teaching, when I need more RAM and newer software for the teaching platform I use.  That is so NOT what I imagined doing when I brought home the new laptop!

Good luck with yours emoticon.Smile.title

Re: New Dell Inspiron 15 3520 Owner with Cursor Jumping - Computer Useless!

I thank you very much for trying to help.  I did exactly what you mentioned, but apparently I selected the wrong driver when I initially reinstalled, and it would not load.  I don't even USE the touchpad, so I hope staying clear of it will solve the problem.  With limited usage in the past week, I'm not sure the problem is solved.  I just wanted to be able to use the laptop all the time, now I don't go near it unless I'm teaching online.  I go back to my old reliable 5 year old e-Machine desktop.  A sad state of affairs.

Re: New Dell Inspiron 15 3520 Owner with Cursor Jumping - Computer Useless!

Hi katalya911,
I am bit unhappy with Dell for not being able to help with the resolution to this issue.
However I have figured out by myself after playing around that turning on the touch guard resolves this issue. The touch pad is very sensitive to hand movements and while typing if your hand moves on the touchpad it causes this error.
So try this and see if it helps to you.
Dell customer care, please advice this to your other customers if they come across with the same issue.

Re: New Dell Inspiron 15 3520 Owner with Cursor Jumping - Computer Useless!

This is a working solution from Dell to me.  I recommend to follow the bottom link first, then the top link.

I understand it could be upsetting not to be able to use the computer.

Re: New Dell Inspiron 15 3520 Owner with Cursor Jumping - Computer Useless!

I am experiencing the same problem.  Even as I'm typing this!  The cursor sporatically jumps back to the beginning of the line.  Then the Touchpad will lock up and freeze for a few seconds before the pointer works!   SO frustrating.  This happened right out of the box.  I've had this computer for only a few months and its as you said, "useless".  I actually own some of Dell stock and now I see why its down.   If I don't find a solution for this soon, I will be very unhappy with Dell.  I anyone has any solutions, please email me.

Re: New Dell Inspiron 15 3520 Owner with Cursor Jumping - Computer Useless!

What I finally did was to essentially make the laptop into a desktop by disabling the touchpad, adding a wireless keyboard and mouse.  Now it works fine!  But what a stupid solution is that if you want to use it like a real laptop?  Oh well, Dell was really no help.  I did what they said to do and it didn't make a bit of difference.  I will not buy this brand again.

Re: New Dell Inspiron 15 3520 Owner with Cursor Jumping - Computer Useless!

I followed your instructions except I forgot to uninstall touchpad driver. Now I am unable to print from Yahoo mail and I am not seeing the print icon. It is giving me Touchpad problem. During the installation I got a message saying it is installing previous version. My Service tag# is <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> and express service code is <ADMIN NOTE: Express service code removed per privacy policy>. Please help me how to fix this problem. I needed to fix this problem soon.

Thanks!
