No VGA our on Inspiron N4010

I am trying to get my Inspiron N4010 to output via the VGA port. Windows will act as if it is connected (will recognize that a device is connected, show display size, hertz, allow my cursor to exit the primary screen to the secondary screen, etc) but the monitor/projectors do not display. Both the monitor will work when connected to my other computers immediately.

Thanks for any help.

Is it a monitor, or a television set?

Use the F1 key to switch to external monitor. Depending on how your function keys are set, you might need to press the FN with F1. Try it both ways. You can also change to an external monitor by using Display Settings.
