OPEN CALL TO DELL TO SUPPORT DELL WEBCAM CENTRAL

TO USERS OF DELL LAPTIOS WITH DELL WEBCAM CENTRAL SOFTWARE:

IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS SOFTWARE, PLEASE REPLY TO THIS POST WITH YOUR COMPUTER MODEL AND THE VERSION OF THE SOFTWARE THAT IS INSTALLED ON IT.

DELL IF YOU ARE READING THIS FORUM, YOU KNOW ABOUT THE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS YOUR USERS ARE HAVING WITH DELL WEBCAM CENTRAL, WHICH ARE BEING REPORTED IN THE DELL LAPTOP VIDEO FORUM AND ON NOTEBOOKREVIEW.

THE PROBLEMS ARE THE FOLLOWING:

  • FOR MANY USERS, THE SOFTWARE DOESN'T WORK OR DOESN'T WORK RELIABLY.
  • ON VERSION 1.40.28, 1.40.38, 1.40.42, 1.40.52, WHICH COMES ON THE M4600, THERE IS AN ANTI-MOTION BLUR SETTING, WHICH IF ENABLED, BREAKS THE WEBCAM COMPLETELY. THE SETTING CANNOT BE CLEARED BECAUSE IT DISAPPEARS! EVEN DEINSTALLING THE SOFTWARE DOES NOT CLEAR THE SETTING.
  • THERE IS NOWHERE TO DOWNLOAD VERSION 1.40.28, 1.40.38, 1.40.42, 1.40.52 OF THE SOFTWARE ON THE DELL WEBSITE.
  • THE SOFTWARE IS NOT AVAILABLE IN "MY DELL DOWNLOADS", EVEN THOUGH IT WAS INSTALLED BY THE FACTORY.
  • THE SOFTWARE IS NOT AVAILABLE IN DRIVERS AND DOWNLOADS.
  • THERE IS ANOTHER VERSION OF THE SOFTWARE (1.40.05, 1.40.35) WHICH IS AVAILABLE (IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO LOOK FOR IT), BUT IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE WEBCAM ON THE M4600. DELL TECHNICAL SUPPORT INSTALLED THIS VERSION ON MY M4600. IT DOES NOT WORK, BUT I COULD NOT COMPLETELY DEINSTALL IT.
  • THE DEINSTALLATION UTILITIES FOR THE SOFTWARE DO NOT WORK PROPERLY, LEAVING BEHIND REGISTRY ENTRIES, AND FILES IN C:\Program Files (x86)\Creative AND C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files. THIS IS PROBABLY WHY DEINSTALLING THE SOFTWARE DOES NOT RELIABLY CLEAR THE ANTI-MOTION BLUR SETTING.
  • THE SOFTWARE AND DRIVERS ARE NOT FULLY WINDOWS 7 COMPATIBLE.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR DELL TO WIDE UTILIZE THIS CREATIVE LABS SOFTWARE, YET NOT BE ABLE TO SUPPORT IT.

  • WE NEED A SCRIPT THAT WILL COMPLETELY REMOVE OLD VERSIONS OF THE SOFTWARE AND DRIVERS FROM OUR COMPUTERS.
  • WE NEED UPDATED VERSIONS OF THE SOFTWARE AND DRIVERS THAT WORK RELIABLY.
  • WE NEED UPDATED VERSIONS OF THE SOFTWARE AND DRIVERS THAT SUPPORT WINDOWS 7 X64 SUPPORT.
  • WE NEED THE SOFTWARE AND DRIVERS TO BE IN A KNOWN LOCATION WHERE WE CAN DOWNLOAD IT.
  • WE NEED DELL TECHNICIANS TO BE TRAINED AND EQUIPPED SO THEY CAN SUPPORT THIS SOFTWARE.

DELL, QUIT HIDING BEHIND CREATIVE LABS. YOU DECIDED TO OEM THEIR SOFTWARE. YOU MUST HAVE HAVE A CONTRACT WITH THEM THAT MANDATES THAT THEY PROPERLY MAINTAIN THE SOFTWARE. IT'S TIME TO GET WITH IT AND SUPPORT YOUR USERS.

My computer is a Dell Latitude E6520, with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit edition. I couldn't agree more with the above statement - Dell's "support" (and I use the term loosely here) is practically non-existent.
