PCMCIA support
Hi,
Do you know if Dell will continue to support the PCMCIA slot over the next 5 years? We currently need to use these slots for accessing the PCIe bus so we’re interested in ensuring that support will continue in the near future.
Thanks,
Keith

PCMCIA is currently a rarity in new systems, and it's a dying technology. No, it won't be around and supported in five years.

16 bit PCMCIA especially 5V has been discontinued for OVER 10 years now.
No vendors at all currently make models with PCMCIA.
Cardbus 32 and Express card only support 3.3V devices and this bus is also gone. There are no current vendors anywhere in the world that make new cardbus or express card laptops as this has been abandoned by everyone.
Accessing the PCI-E bus would be EXPRESS CARD Slots.
The current technology is "Thunderbolt"
Thunderbolt™ technology is a transformational high-speed, dual protocol I/O that provides unmatched performance over current I/O technologies with 10Gbps bi-directional transfer speeds. It provides flexibility and simplicity by supporting both data (PCIe) and video (DisplayPort) on a single cable connection that can daisy-chain up to six devices.

Thanks for your replys and apologies, the current Expresscard slot is what I should have referred to. Is it known if this slot will remain supported in the next 5 years by any chance?

It may be around in limited form but is, like PCMCIA, disappearing from systems rapidly at this point.
