Possible upgrades for Latitude D630

Processor, T7300, 2.0, 4MB, Core Merom, G0
Hard Drive, 80G, 7.2K Small Form Factor, Moraga Plus - SATA, Latched Address

Processor, T7300, 2.0, 4MB, Core Merom, G0
Hard Drive, 80G, 7.2K Small Form Factor, Moraga Plus - SATA, Latched Address
4 GB RAM
Windows XP SP 3 (32 bit)

I was hoping to upgrade it to get more out of it.

The possible things I have in ind are

1. Replace the Hard disk with SSD (32 or 60 GB). Is this possible. If yes which SSD should I get SATA II.

2. Upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or professional 64 bit. Is this possible. The XP that I have is 32 bit and I read somewhere that Intel Core 2 Duo CPU's allow 64 bit operating system. Can I do this?

3. Upgrade from 4 GB to 8 GB RAM (provided I am able to install 64 bit). Please suggest.

ALso I read somewhere that SSD's are not that reliable and that their lifespan is less that our good old HDD. Is that so.

Would really appreciate if someone can share their experiences with me.

Thanks
Ron

Has anyone gotten the D630 to run with the memory at 800mhz?  I thought I saw a thread that said that the Centrino based D630s would only clock to 667mhz but the Core2Duo based D630s would clock the memory at 800mhz?  (But I can no longer find that thread.)

The chipset in the D630 and D830 systems is not capable of running memory over 667 MHz -- even if you install faster RAM.

My understanding is that 4GB is indeed max for the D630 unless the latest version of the BIOS, A19, is installed.  Then 8GB is supported.

I have a 250GB SSD and my CPU does support 8GB of ram 'cause  the cpu supports the extended ram via software.

32bit can only go to 3.5GB unless the CPU has extended ability. If you don't have the right CPU it won't support above 3.5GB ram on 32 bit O/S.

If you go to the Crucial memory website they also verify that D630 supports 8GB of ram.

Hi as a recent Dell 630 owner I did much research on upgrades for my unit. First stop was of course crucial they said 1 tb hdd and 8 g of ram. I also went to the free windows 10 site to determine if I could install it. they said 8 g of ram and 1 tb hdd  also my chipset and my graphics were insufficient. so I went to the Dell site and found the upgrades I needed ( free of charge ) I ordered compatible hdd and ram, and I am happy to say I am running on windows pro 10 ( had to first upgade to Win 7 ) 64 bit with 8 gigs of ram 1 tb of hard drive with only 4 % of hdd used hope this helps. comparable laptop is a 700.00 Toshebia I spent under 200.00 and it purrs like a kitten.
