Precision 5510 + U2713HM

Hi,

I have purchased a Precision 5510 Intel® Core™ i7-6820HQ (Quad Core 2.70GHz, 3.60GHz Turbo, 8MB 45W, w/Intel HD Graphics 530) with the 4k display option.

I am having trouble in getting the video signal out at the native resolution of the external monitor I would like to use: U2713HM(2560 x 1440). I am using the HDMI output for external monitor and when trying to set the external display resolution I only have 2 options (for high resolutions)in the configuration panel: 1920X1080 and 3840X2160. No other options between these two.

Please help!

You can try using a Thunderbolt to Display port or  VGA adapter to get a 2560 x 1440 resolution.

I did a little researching on the U2713M and found this document

Maximum resolution available on the Dell U2713HM monitor

The prime, or optimal, display mode for the Dell U2713HM monitor is listed as 2560 x 1440 Dots per Inch (DPI) at 60Hz. This maximum resolution is only available using either the DisplayPort or DVI dual-link inputs.

The following list shows the available inputs on the Dell U2713HM monitor and the maximum resolution for each:

  1. DisplayPort: 2560 x 1440 DPI at 60Hz
  2. Dual-link DVI: 2560 x 1440 DPI at 60Hz
  3. VGA: 2048 x 1152 DPI at 60Hz
  4. HDMI: 1920 x 1080 DPI at 60Hz

Hi Terry,

Thank you for your input. Something strange happened today. I have used another HDMI cable and the the native resolution(2560 x 1440) appeared in my option list but it was not the recommended resolution(1920x1080). The 4k resolution disappeared from the option list. I am still getting the 4k option when operating in clone mode for multiple displays but the image on the u2713hm gets chunky, especially for texts.

I have another question: What would be the cheapest option for a docking station compatible with my laptop that would support a dsp or dvi output and several usb 3.0 connections?

Best,

Marius
