Problem with keeping INTERNET connection

Jump to solution

For about 3 weeks now I have been sorely vexed with problems maintaining my wireless INTERNET connection. I desperately began a stringent search for the culprit and found, when I discovered within my wireless map, the intrusion caused "Gateway" . I must admit I am not well versed in the universe of computer information, however, having observed the connection map before the aforementioned worriment began, it was not there. Thus my question is, How can I amputate this infection of "Gateway" malware? I have foraged the internet inexhaustibly and uncovered nothing to abolish or cure this decrepitude. My email address is <ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed per privacy policy> please place in the subject line, "Remove Gateway".

brian28518,

Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system?

Make and model of your computer and opertaing system. 32-bit or 64-bit?

Can you run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.

Bryan M,

Your computer or a work computer?

On all systems, when you hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time, you'll see...

For XP, you have the type

command

For Vista/Windows 7, you have to type

cmd

Hit enter. Type

ipconfig /all

Hit enter

Right click at the top of the log, left click on edit, select all

Right click at the top of the log, left click on edit, copy

Then post the log here.

Rick, thanks for helping me. I had already did the same thing you suggested I just don't know what to do with it now that it's copied to notepad. Do I change the settings, what do I change, how do I get the modified configuration to reinstall.

Re: Problem with keeping INTERNET connection

brian28518,

An ipconfig /all log helps me see if the adapter is there and it's settings.

See if this will work...

Download the System Information Tool If using Vista/Windows 7, the tool needs extracted. Once extracted, right click on sysinfo and run as administrator.

If using XP, double click on the tool, then double click on sysinfo.

Allow this past your virus program and post the information back here.

Re: Problem with keeping INTERNET connection

brian28518,

When you reinstalled the operating system, did you install the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Start with the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.
