Processor Swap- Inspiron N5110
Hello all,
I recently got an Inspiron N5110 as a gift. I had asked for an i5 or an i7 processor, but instead I got an i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20 GHz.. I was wondering if I would be able to replace the i3 with an i5 or an i7, and if so, what, if any, other changes I would have to make to my computer, such as RAM, etc. I will post the information below, and if any more information is necessary, then please request it.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium- SP 1
Processor: Intel Core i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
System Type: 64-bit OS

System should take both i5 or i7; that said, upgrading the CPU will void the warranty.
A mid-range i5 will run about $250; an i7-quad, about $600.

Thanks! Is there a way I could have Dell do it? Maybe send it in and have them do it? Or would I have to do it myself?

No. Dell will not support a CPU upgrade -- none of the major PC vendors will.
If the system is new (less than 21 days from shipment), from two standpoints you'd be better off returning it and ordering a new one:
First, you won't lose your warranty - and second, the cost of an at-purchase upgrade of the CPU will be a fraction of what you'll pay at retail for a CPU. The contractors who build notebooks buy CPUs in 10,000 or large lots - and Intel discounts the CPU price significantly vs. what they charge for single CPUs.

Well, it's not that new. I found an i7 on Best Buy for around $330, so I think I am going replace my processor with that. Thanks for all you help!

I can almost guarantee you that i7 is for desktops - not mobile systems. $330 is about right for a desktop i7.
Mobile CPUs are generally about twice the price of desktop CPUs.
If it's an LGA1155, 1366 or 2011 CPU, it's for desktops -not notebooks.
If it is a mobile CPU, be sure it has a four digit model number -the three digit models are the older ones -- these won't work in your system either.

Hello
I know, this topic is old by now, but as I am not able to find concrete answers to my problem/idea, this is the closest.
I have Dell Inspiron R15 N5110
Conf can be found:

Basically have Upgraded the system as much as I could by now - 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM, HDD to SSD, Win Vista to Win 7. Bu my demandings for the sys has grown too.
I now need to know what kind of i5 and i7 series processors can I run with this configuration.
I know there are sets with all of those 2nd generation processors (i3, i5, and i7) but some say all of 2nd gen processors (with Sandy Bridhe technology) can be used. Some say there is no way this mohterboard can run with i7 what so ever.
I have cunsulted so called specialists on Dell plarforms (they provide spare parts fo Dell) and they also could not be sure if i7 can be run.
Dell official website data somewhat gives me hope, also N5110 platform is shipped with that CPU.
So please can someone give me solid answer if I can invest on i7 or I have to settle wiht i5.
P. S. my personal favourite among availables is i7-2760QM
