Ram compatibility question

laptop in question is dell inspiron 15 3521.

at dell's site under memory it says that i need ddr3.

but if i want to buy memory from dell directly they recommend me only ddr3l for my laptop.

so which is it? ddr3\L?

additionally i read on tomshardware forums that ddr3L is supported from ivy cpus and newer,which is what i have.

i was looking at this kingston model and i am not sure it will be supported...because at the top it says "Maximum Operating Power" 1.35v and if my laptop is ddr3 so it need 1.5?no?

 thanks in advance.

Hi DAVID456

Thanks for writing to us.

The system can take both DDR3 and DDR3L (The difference is the voltage and price).

Here are the Dell part# you can go ahead with

FYHV1 :: 4GB DDR3

DG29K :: 4GB DDR3L

0X23C :: 2GB DDR3

N0966 :: 2GB DDR3L

Do provide us your system tag#, email address and name via private message,by clicking on my name in blue and then select send a private message

thanks for the answer.

can i use this model - HX316LS9IB/8
8GB 1G x 64-Bit DDR3L-1600 by kingston?

in this pdf it says

Maximum Operating Power
TBD W* @1.35V
but in the FEATURES section below it says that in JEDEC and VDDQ it can get to 1.5
can use it?

and one last question in this dell manual under memory it says :
"Configurations supported   2 GB, 4 GB, 6 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB"

16 GB is max for 2 slots or is it max for 1 slot? can i put 16 GB max or 32GB?
thanks in advance.

The system will work with DDR3 or 3L as noted.  Don't mix the RAM types.

It's 16 G total max (2X8).
