Hi Kevinsiaw,

Thank you for your response.

Yes, the Kingston model memory which was mentioned in the post is compatible on Inspiron N4010 computer.

For PC3-10600 DDR3 1333MHZ SODIMM memory, a higher number represents faster memory, or more bandwidth. Occasionally DDR3 is referred to by a "friendly name" like "DDR3-1066" or "DDR3-1333". When written this way, the numbers after "DDR3" refer to the data transfer rate per second (/s) of the components.

Friendly Name Industry Name Peak Transfer Rate Data Transfers/Second (in Millions)
DDR3-800 PC3-6400 6400 MB/s 800
DDR3-1066 PC3-8500 8533 MB/s 1066
DDR3-1333 PC3-10600 10667 MB/s 1333
DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 12800 MB/s 1600

So, You can go ahead and upgrade the memory on the computer.Let me know if this helped.

Please let me know if you have any other queries.

Re: Ram that's compatible with my N4010 Dell Inspiron

Dear Rajesh,

I have an Inspiron N4010 laptop. I went to Dell download and upgraded the hard drive firmware. It crashed my hard drive without any recourse. I have tried all the tricks and from the prompt mbr but nothing worked. I did not have any backup (as I moved and many things disappeared) and found only one Windows repair disk that was not much help despite trying to repair and restore. It all failed with the codes that HHD failed.

Now that I have just installed a new Hitachi HD which is the worst place in the computer I am going to upgrade my RAM from 4 to 8GB. I have already ordered it from Crucial and would get it in a week or so.

Do I need to modify any bios or simply replace the 2gb chips with 4gb? This question brought me to your thread!

While at it, I have my old crashed HD in an enclosure and I can read the directory but could not go into my files. When I try to enter my owner's folder it keeps going and going and loading without any stop. My question is how to get my music, data or even programs from this drive without spending more money? Are there any articles, web pages or fixes that I can do to get into my settings and or move it to C.

My HD was Seag. 500 GB @5000, now I have the same size but higher speed.

Thanks for your above detailed and easy to understand answer about memory.

Cheers,

H. Mirza

Hi H.Mirza,

Inspiron N4010 can support memory up to 8GB.

I have provided a picture regarding memory configuration on Inspiron n4010.

For data back up, you can contact a local technician to do that.

Please let me know if you have any other queries.

Thanks Raj. I have already upgraded my Inspiron 4010 (Win 7, 64 bit) to 8 GB memory and a new Hitachi HD of higher speed. However, I have all my data, programs, and settings on the old Dell/OEM drive that is now in an enclosure. I don't have much hope to get any help from Dell USA to retrieve anything from my old HD.

Cheers,

HM

Re: Ram that's compatible with my N4010 Dell Inspiron

Hi Rajesh,

I have two questions regarding upgrading the memory of my Dell Inspiron N4010, would appreciate a response: (i)  is there a difference between DDR3 1333MHz SODIMM and  DDR3 1333MHz ? More precisely, will DDR3 1333 MHz without SODIMM be compatible with Dell N4010? (ii) My N4010 came with 3 GB memory; it has got 4 memory slots, two are occupied with the 3 GB memory and two are free. I plan to insert a 4GB memory card to make the total memory 7 GB, but in your possible memory configuration you did not include 7 GB memory. Would you advise that my adding 4GB memory to my existing 3GB memory would be ok?

Thank you in anticipation.

Sincerely,

Biswanath Debnath
