Replaced Hard Drive on used Dell Latitude D630

I replaced hard drive on Dell Latitude d639 with XP operating system.
I am preparing to download drivers on usb to add. Is there anything specific I should know in doing this other than doing them in order specified?

Thanks

That's about it - other than to realize that XP goes end of life in about five months (April 9, 2014).  On that date, all security updates for XP cease - it's time to consider moving to Windows 7 if you have plans to use the system for longer than the next five months.

Thanks for your response.
If I upgrade to Windows 7 what would I need to do differently as far as drivers if anything.

Hi and thank you again.

I will then work to do the drivers in order but am asked for the PCMCIA and/orSmartcard drivers. I see this one in list given:
O2Micro OZ77Cxx USB SmartCard Controller, v.1.1.4.202, A04
but don't see anything for a smart card but maybe I am missing it.

No, the driver install order remains the same.

Also, as to your other question, there should be only one driver for your laptop's wireless card.

Hi,
Since I'm doing this for my granddaughters computer I will just do the drivers and leave computer as xp for now but will need to get it upgraded before updates no longer available so appreciate any help on this is appreciated.
One thing I notice is a ton of drivers for Dell Wireless... and these are recommended. Do I need to add all of them?
Also there are quite a few optional drivers. Should they be downloaded in the event they are needed or wait.
Thanks for your help.

Hi and thank you,

I'm installing the driver now.

I hear what your saying about no drivers if I upgrade for this model.

We will have to get a new laptop it sounds like

Do install that driver.

By the way, if you upgrade to Windows 8 or Windows 7, you will have to go through this entire process again.
The bad news is that Dell has no Windows 8 or Windows 7 drivers for this model.

Not saying that you can't install Windows 7 or Windows 8 on it or that you won't be able to find drivers.

The question is whether the $100 you will be paying for Windows to install on this laptop is money well spent versus paying $350 for the cheapest new laptop that will still be faster than the D630.

Of course, maybe Microsoft will offer a great deal for Windows 8 when April 2014 rolls around.

Hi,

I attempted to put the Dell Quickset on the Latitude but get a message that the file may be corrupted and invalid extractor.
Is this required for this computer and if so is there another place I can download.

Thanks

Quikset is not absolutely necessary for the laptop to run.

Try downloading it again.

Thanks I will try the link.
I have a question. I notice some of the items on the driver page are highlighted or shaded. Is that a clue those are the drivers essential or is that just the way the page is?

Thank you and appreciate your response.
The quickset file from page you gave me didn't want to cooperate either and gave an error message. Since this happened seems to make sense to move on since not required.
