Replacing or Upgrading Hard Drive in Inspiron 1300

Hi,

I'm looking for some help in replacing the hard drive in my Inspiron 1300 laptop.  The original drive has almost completely failed (I'm not able to read over 50% of the files, and many programs won't start).  I was able to copy the partitions on either side of the "C:\" drive, but not the actual main partition (C:\) before the drive failed.  I installed Windows XP from a Dell disk that came with another computer, but now when I boot, I don't get the blue www.dell.com bar, and Ctrl-F11 does nothing.  I can access the diagnotics partition, but all the tests just come up as nothing is wrong.  Any ideas you can give me on how to get the blue bar back, or general hints when replacing or upgrading a hard drive in a Dell machine would be a great help.

Thanks.
