(Solved!) Inspiron 1318 hangs at the Vista green progress bar on booting. Hard drive is producing a worrying "click, clik" sound,

Am I toasted?

 

Tried to boot in safe mode and it hangs at crcdisk.sys. Now running bios diagnostics...

The hard drive may have failed- press F12 at the Dell screen, load the diagnostics and run the extended hard drive test.

Thank you. I'm running the diagnostics right now, I've also tried booting in safe mode and ith hang at crcdisk.sys.

YES!

 

Found something on another forum! Someone whose machine was hanging at the same crcdisk.sys disabled his wifi in the BIOS and was able to boot, and so did I !!!

Strangely, the hard drive stopped clicking but I'm now frantically burning stuff on DVD's hoping the drive will last long enough...

I will post again after trying to re-instating the wi-fi in the BIOS to see if the problem come again and is reproducible...

I've re-instated the wi-fi in the BIOS and everything is working as before. Thanks again!:emotion-1:
