Sound Card Problem - Brand New Inspiron 1525 ....
I just got my new Inspiron 1525 running Ubuntu 8.04 and everything works but the sound card - no audio at all. The when I click on the volume control icon on the panel I get the following error message: "No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found." Can anyone help me with this please?

Here are a couple links for the plug-ins to get your audio up and running. http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/modules/gst-plugins-good.html .

I'm having the same problem, only the sound was working fine. I can only guess it has something to do with a recent update, but I have no idea what. I ran the Dell boot-time diagnostics and the hardware is working fine, so I know it has to be in the software. The gstreamer modules appear to be installed, but I keep getting the same error the original poster noted above.

I have exactly the same problem.
Brand new Inspirion 1525.
When I got it the sound card was being recognized, but sound was not enabled. I got that working, but now the sound card is not being recognized. Currently on 2.6.24_22-generic drivers.
I think I will try rolling back to an earlier kernel and see if that works.
Does anyone know if the Intel sound card 82801H (ICH8 Family) is actually supported?
