Studio 15--13 months old needs new motherboard??!!
Son's Studio 15 i5 is only 13 months old (yep, one month out of warranty) and the day before college classes were to begin, it wouldn't turn on via battery or electric adapter. Geek Squad says it needs a new motherboard for $600. They said any number of reasons could cause the motherboard to go bad. Anyone else have a similar problem with a newer Dell laptop?

It is a Studio 15 - 1558. I texted my son who is away at college to find out exactly what the startup lights did when he tried to turn it on. I did call Dell to ask the price of a new motherboard for the 1558 and they said $514.99. So Geek Squad's $600 wasn't far off. But then I found out GS only warranties the parts and labor for 30 days!!

No startup lights, nothing. Just dead. Battery and power cord.
