Studio 1555 BIOS

I have a Studio 1555 with 8GB RAM and is loaded with Windows 7

When I checked, I saw that my BIOS was A08 which is out-of-date. However, whenever I try to upgrade, I get an "Dell Computer Flash BIOS Upgrade has stopped working" and the program closes.

Please can someone help?

Try upgrading with a lesser amount of ram and see what it does.

I've tried to run the upgrade afer removing each of the DIMMs in turn, but still no luck...

I've also run diagnostics on the RAM, battery and everything else and they are all OK...

Try running the update in Safe Mode (press F8 at powerup to boot into Safe Mode).

Also you must have a working battery in order to do a BIOS upgrade.

The battery is fine. I have run the PC Checkup from the Dell Support Centre and the machine has passed all of the tests.

I have run advanced test on the memory which again passed. All systems look OK.

However, I am seeing the follwing in the Application Windows Logs, which may have a bearing:

(6896) Asapi: (21:06:42:2430)(6896) libPreEnumOem.SystemEnumerator - Error -- 92 SMBIOS total memory size is wrong - accessible physical memory is greater than installed memory.

Falling back to Microsoft provided memory metric.

*** Memory Metric Summary ***

Total Physical Memory   (Windows) : 8156.86 MB

Total Physical Memory   (SMBIOS)  : 4096.00 MB

Just tried as you suggested. I tried the update in Safe Mode, with all of the RAM and again with reduced RAM.

No joy, I'm afraid

I know this is a really old thread but Just upgraded My Studio 1555 bios

from A07 to A13

Had the same problem.

Read elsewhere in this forum about removing one of the sodims also and also didn't work for me.

My situation was 2x2GB (4GB total) and in refereced url they dropping to a single 2GB sodimm and it worked but not for me.

I had to drop to a single 1GB SODIMM which was fitted in the nearest slot to the motherboard.  Then all went well.

Not a good show.

Hope this helps someone.
