I have a 1 year old Studio 1555 that, not long after receipt, I was having problems with. After contacting Dell, a technician walked me through a re-install of Windows 7 from the OS disc. This meant I had to manually install drivers, which I was not helped with, and left me without certain pieces of factory installed software that weren't on the utilities disc or available for download, which was annoying.
More recently, I have been encountering problems with performance and after troubleshooting for some time, I have decided I want to restore my laptop to the factory setup.
The problem is, since completing the first re-install that the technician walked me through (some months ago), I no longer have my recovery partition, as it presumably will have been formatted, meaning I am unable to restore to factory settings from my hard drive. This is very frustrating, as I was not warned of this at the time.
Is it possible to obtain the contents of the recovery partition or the 'factory.wim' file specific to my system config from Dell or another source? I find it rather unfair to be missing access to certain software and recovery files.
Thanks for any help.
Thanks, but this doesn't really fulfil what I'm after. I'm aware that the latest drivers and SOME software is/are available from the support page, but this leaves me without certain things set up and NO RECOVERY PARTITION which occurred through no fault of my own.
Do Dell Tech/Support post on these forums? I would like to hear from one of their support people, as well of course from those who don't work for Dell and can offer help - any help is much appreciated!.
If the recovery partition is still there, it is possible to use it even if the boot manager that invokes it has been overwritten (such as by a manual installation of Windows). To do this you will need a Dell Windows DVD (see second link).
This is total <ADMIN NOTE: Profanity removed as per TOU>....can't get help from Dell, they won't even answer a simple question without charging you! Apparently you CAN NOT factory restore your Studio 1555 from your hard drive which I was lied to about when I purchased it, totally pissed at being lied to and ripped off!
I will never buy another Dell product, EVER!
