Re: Studio 1558 Shutting down- Your sytem details please.

mrqmarie,

You really need to update to A04.  The A04 did not improve my wiwreless speed.

I received my 1558 on 1/26 and proceeded to update with new drivers.  That is when I started to see the low wireless speed through the Dell Wireless WLAN Monitor.  On 2/11, I had the motherboard and mini card replaced.  No change to the shutdown or my wireless running at low speed.  My exchange that I  received on 3/11 with A03 has better speed inications with the two 1558s next to each other.  I am sending back the orginal 1558.

Also, check to make sure your monitor brightness function keys work.  I updated to the latest video driver for the 1558 (Intel CPU Graphics) and the brightness function keys would not work.  It is a software issue related to the driver.  A seperate thread on "brightness, 1558" fixed the issue by installing a driver from a different Studio model (I think the 1568).

So far the A04 appears to be working.

Good luck- Glenn

Re: Studio 1558 Shutting down- Your sytem details please.

My studio kept shutting down, luckily I found this site and called dell tech support.  They installed the new bios.  I am a little afraid of reliability issues, I just received this on 3/11, after waiting almost one month because dell ran out of screens, ordered on 2/15.  If I found this site earlier, would have never bought this dell.  Did a lot of work and computer kept shutting down, really upset me.  The tech installed the bios, but then he kept tried to sell me a television, would show me all of these tv's trying to push, saying he would give me 30% off, but the prices were regular prices.  Then he passed me to his supervisor, and he tried to push a televsion on me also.

Re: Studio 1558 Shutting down- Your sytem details please.

Got My studio 1558 early this week.

Was worried about the self shutdown issues ...

There is no shutdown issues for mine so far. I check my Bios version. It's alreay been set up to the lastest version ...

The computer is running great...

(There is fan sound from time to time, but compare to my seven year old veteran Inspiron 1100, that fan noise is nothing...)

* Turn off the laptop
* Unplug the AC adapter from the laptop
* Remove the battery from the laptop
* Hold the laptop power button in for 30 seconds
* Reinsert the battery and plug in the AC adapter
* Power the laptop on
* Any difference in Freezeups?

Re: Studio 1558 Shutting down- Your sytem details please.

bump- since noone from Dell will reply to the 200 post 1558 graphics lockup problem thread.

have a 1558 for 2 weeks now (got it from teh outlet).  i7, 5470 graphics, 8gb ram, 500gb HDD, win7 64 Home prem.

all drivers updated, bios at A11, mobo alreayd replaced once.

Yet I am getting "unexpected shutdown" errors twice a day.  machine either just shuts off or i notice a beep and that it has gone to the account logon screen.  NOte that this happens when I am not doing anything on the machine either - it's just sitting there using nothing but the power from the power cord (I'm rarely on battery)

Dell? anyone????

Re: Studio 1558 Shutting down- Your sytem details please.

I have had my refurbished 1558 since early April and it just began having the shut-down issue. Did it once a few weeks ago and this week it is happening about twice a day. Have updated the BIOS, but it still shuts down. Any other options/suggestions?

Chris M--I saw these steps from you:

* Turn off the laptop
* Unplug the AC adapter from the laptop
* Remove the battery from the laptop
* Hold the laptop power button in for 30 seconds
* Reinsert the battery and plug in the AC adapter
* Power the laptop on
* Any difference in Freezeups?

Was this a recommendation for the shut down issue? Has it helped anyone?

Thanks!

Hi

The air vents seem to be in the wrong place which doesn't help,  they blow downwards instead of out.  Top Marks to the designer maybe he's last job was making pancakes

Re: Studio 1558 Shutting down- Your sytem details please.

Same here Nuggles. Purchased the laptop in September 2010 and have had repeated problems with the machine overheating and shutting off under seemingly low levels of processing stress.

Would really like to know how to fix this! I have a technician coming around to fix an unrelated issue with the mousepad so I think I will confront him about it.
