Studio 1747 screen goes black

I would be very grateful if I could get assistance here in regards of my Dell Studio 1747 crashing.
I've installed latest bios and done some other things in the other posts about this same problem.
The computer usually crashes after viewing a picture or opening a video. The screen fades to black. Sometimes if I wait really long it return to back.
But if I force boot it, it won't start up anymore for a long time. It tries to start and the lights come up, but then it just turns off. After maybe couple of hours I can turn it on again. I've tried quite few things, but the problem remains. I even got a new power adapter sent to me.
The laptop seems to crash about every second day.
I would appreciate if you would message here rather than give links to older posts as I've found out that they might have old links that do not work.
